The Sales Support Consultant (SSC) is instrumental to the success of the sales team which provides support to increase overall sales consultant productivity and effectiveness. As a contributing member of the sales team, you will be responsible for pre call support activities, problem resolution, analysis and follow up. The initiatives to drive growth that this team supports is to free up and protect the sales reps selling time by handling the pre sales activities in the core market so that the sales rep can maintain focus on the initiatives as set by US Brokerage.
Provide marketing and presale support through daily contact with sales consultants, broker and service partners to improve core product sales. Support for home office authority RFP triage process in partnership with the sales consultant and underwriting. Work with sales consultants and broker to make product/plan design recommendations regarding their specific objectives for their clients. This position would also provide quote follow up support with brokers, as delegated by the sales consultant, focusing on 2-25 life proposals. The Sales Support Consultant will be accountable for partnering with sales on close ratio results for the <2000 life block segmentation.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Partner with the sales consultant to manage broker relationships in the core market segment for quotes, customer development, services, products, renewals and office level programs. Track close ratio results along with competitive data. - Work with the sales consultant in developing guideline for designing plan benefit plans. - Receives the RFP and documents plan designs. In partnership with the sales consultant, review and discuss alternative plan designs directly with broker when appropriate. - Identify broker needs and provide solutions. - Serve as liaison (building strong relationships) between sales consultants, broker, sales support, underwriting, and service in the pre-sale process for both Field and Home Office Authority prospects. - Broker Support: understand and educate broker requirements to turn around business and capable of presenting proposals to broker. - Understands, interprets, and applies underwriting rules and risk implications related to plan designs/products. - Provides professional back up for brokers when sales consultants are unavailable. - Able to understand and articulate the Unum Value Story, product portfolio and runs point for marketing tools, to include marketing systems and marketing library. Understands and incorporates competitive knowledge. - Participates in the sales planning meetings/weekly sales team meetings with Market Manager/sales consultants. - Assist the reporting Manager for Sales Coordinators on directing workflow models on the core business. Serves as a mentor for the sales coordinators. - May perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent preferred with sales experience a plus. - 2-4 years in employee benefit service industry. - Proven, superior customer service skills - Ability to build and maintain good relationships with co-workers and producers; seen as credible, trustworthy, flexible, and dependable, building a network of contacts that provides quick access to needed information, helpful advice and suggestions. - Ability to manage multiple functions with thorough attention to detail and follow-up - Strong work ethic, dependable and committed to meeting objectives and takes ownership for accomplishing them. - Knowledge of group and supplemental products is needed. - Excellent prioritization and organization skills. - Effective verbal and written communication, negotiation, and persuasive skills required. - Proficient in MS Word and Excel applications. - Proper licensing and appointing are conditions of employment and must be obtained within 90 days from the date of hire/promotion. - Ability to travel as needed. - Meets the standards for this position, as defined in the Talent Management Framework.
